Digipak Research

For our first ancillary task, we have decided that we will make a digipak cover to go alongside our music video.

The cover will directly relate to the music video and will show the theme of our music video. We both have the same ideas of how we want our music video to look. This made it easy to decide how we would go about making a digipak cover. We both thought it would be good to have the cover quite dark, as it would convey and reflect the mood of the video and the atmosphere between the characters.

We both particularly like the idea of having a black album cover with white writing, as we think this looks very effective and the writing is very clear. If we then add lighting to the image we think it could look very eye catching, and this theme would go well with the theme of the music video. We also both like the idea of having transparent effects on the cover. The only cover we could find that uses this effect was a Jimi Hendrix cover. We could use this effect to show his girlfriend looking over them.

Animatic Planning

Over the past couple of weeks Ellie and I have been working on or animatic. We have to draw out what our video will look like. This has taken us a while as neither of us have any drawing skills! This will help us when it comes to filming the final video, as we will have an idea of what we want it to look like. We have also had to edit the animatic in Final Cut, and so we have had practice with Final Cut prior to filming our video.

Change of Location

We originally choose to film part of our video in Hyde Park. However after futher research and planning we have changed our minds. We have decided that instead of Hyde Park we will use Danson Park. We think this is a better location, plus it is easier for us to get to which makes filming there more practical.

Music Video Permission Letter

We needed to the copyright holder of our chosen song so they could give us their permission to use the song for our video, and also for our digipak and magazine advertisement for the ancillary tasks. We sent a letter to the company that Snow Patrol were signed by, Polydor and also the sub company of Polydor called Fiction.

Mood Board

Now that we have all of our initial ideas, we decided to create a mood board, putting all our ideas into pictures. This helps to visualize our ideas properly.
